The holidays are getting closer and often you want to get a wine for the festival that not only tastes good to everyone, but is also something special. And since Riesling is the favorite grape variety of the Germans, we thought we would present our top 3 Rieslings in each price category.
Weingut Nik Weis - Saar Riesling 2019
Admittedly, I haven't known Nik Weis for long. But recently I was allowed to taste his Saar Riesling and was really impressed by what he can do in terms of value for money. The Saar Riesling from Urbanshof guarantees drinking flow and crisp, firm minerality. Its rapid acidity plays excitingly with its delicious fruit, it is lean, yet wonderfully aromatic. You can't go wrong with this Riesling for about 9-10€, it can easily beat some colleagues who are twice as expensive!
Markus Molitor "Saarburger Rausch" Riesling Auslese ** dry 2012
Our second candidate plays one league higher. Everyone knows that Markus Molitor can make Riesling. But this Riesling Auslese is in my opinion almost unbeatable for the price and is one of the best I've ever drunk. This Riesling is available for around €50. Pale golden yellow, sparkling reflections, on the nose it is gripping, beguiling, concentrated, powerful and elegant at the same time. Lots of slate, salty, stimulating, mineral, pure Riesling aroma. Green grasses, gooseberries and fresh rhubarb are added. Aromas of kumquats and kaffir lime leaves. This monumentum manages to appear sleek, elegant, but just as powerful. World Class.
Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese Grosse Lage noble sweet 2016
This large location is the supreme discipline and also the highest price category, which we would like to present here. Here the 0.375l bottle costs around €160.
Profound, delicate, elegant. An inviting scent of sun-kissed, yellow peaches and pears, accompanied by fresh lemon zest and a distinctive note of honey envelops the nose.
Impressive opulence spreads on the palate. Lush, fruity, creamy and spicy, this Beerenauslese slides over the taste buds. The tightly interwoven interplay of fruit acidity and sweetness is balanced and very drinkable. This Riesling is already simply world class, but has incredibly high storage potential.
If we deviate from the Riesling theme, our wines, which we created in cooperation with the Merkel winery from Reinhessen, are of course also made for the holidays. Check out our wines here.
